Charleston Breast Implants

What are Breast Implants?

Breast implants are silicone shells filled with either silicone gel or saline solution. They are used in breast augmentation and breast reconstruction procedures to give volume to a woman's breasts.

Who is a good candidate for Breast Implants?

A good candidate for breast implants is at least 18 years old for saline implants. She is not pregnant or nursing and does not have untreated malignant or pre-malignant cancer of the breast. You should also look at Am I a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Surgery?

What is the Breast Implant procedure like?

Generally, breast implant surgery is performed in our accredited ambulatory surgery facility under IV sedation. An incision is made usually at inframammary breast fold. Then a pocket is made either over or under the pectoral muscle. The breast implant is inserted into the pocket and the incision is closed. The procedure takes about an hour and a half.

How long does it take to recover from Breast Implant surgery?

The recovery period from breast implant surgery can vary widely depending on the exact procedure you had, how well you follow postoperative instructions, and how quickly you heal naturally. Following your surgery, you will be given a prescription for pain medication and can return to normal activities within a few days.

When will I see the results of my Breast Implant surgery?

Your breasts will be larger immediately after surgery, but it may take a while before you see the actual results of your breast implant surgery. Initially, your breasts may be swollen, making them appear larger than you desired. Breast implants are also initially placed high on the chest so that they can settle into place naturally. Your final results will be apparent about six months after the surgery.

Will I have a scar after my Breast Implant surgery?

All surgery leaves scars, and breast implant surgery is no different. But we will give you postoperative instructions to help your skin heal and reduce the appearance of your scars. For most women, scars become virtually imperceptible. Also look at our breast enlargement options page to learn more about incisions and scarring.

What are the risks of Breast Implant surgery?

All surgery carries some risks. Please see our page on surgical risks to learn more.

Will I be able to breastfeed with my Breast Implants?

Probably. While nipple sensation can change following breast augmentation, it should not affect your ability to breastfeed. Both silicone and saline breast implants have been shown to pose no danger to breastfeeding infants.

Can I get help covering the cost of Breast Implants?

Yes. We can help you get financing for your breast implants through SurgeryLoans.com and Care Credit.
