Brazilian Butt Lift FAQ

Q:
What is recovery from a Brazilian Butt Lift like?

A:
(Answer from Port City Plastic Surgery Physician’s Assistant April Buckingham, MPAS): Recovery from a Brazilian Butt Lift takes time, but our patients know: it’s worth it. Our BBL procedure, which uses liposuction and fat grafting together to sculpt and improve the shape of your buttocks, has one of the highest patient satisfaction rates of any surgery we offer. When followed carefully, our post-operative care instructions can help you get the most out of your BBL. Here are some tips to help you heal and recover quickly and beautifully from your BBL with Port City Plastic Surgery in Charleston, SC: – You may return to work 10-14 days after the procedure, with general swelling improving within 6-8 weeks. If your job requires sitting, a special pillow can be used to take some of the pressure off of the buttocks. – Dr. Widenhouse will prescribe an oral antibiotic and pain medication to be taken after surgery. Use your medications as directed. – Wear your compression garment as directed. – Gentle massage to the areas that underwent liposuction will expedite healing and improve your contour. – Walk and stretch your legs. You need to move often to help decrease the risk of developing blood clots. – Drink plenty of fluids in the days after your procedure. Have you been working hard to create a curvy “rear view” with very little to show for it? Do you think you could benefit from a procedure that combines liposuction and a boost to the booty? Call Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Brian Widenhouse in Charleston SC. He specializes in Brazilian Butt Lifts and body contouring, and his staff can schedule your consultation today. Q:
Why would I get a Brazilian Butt Lift instead of butt implants?

A:
The main deciding factor between getting a Brazilian Butt Lift (a fat grafting procedure) or butt implants is how much fat you have to work with. Real fat from your body shapes well, can be put specifically into the areas that need it, and can also help create hips if they are desired as part of your new look. Complication rates tend to be lower with the Brazilian Butt Lift, liposuction is part of the procedure and it costs less. With butt implants, unless you’re very thin to start with, I’m usually going to recommend liposuction in addition to the implants to create the silhouette you want. Butt implants are the better alternative for patients who have very little fat on their body to begin with.

Q:
How does the Brazilian Butt Lift achieve a smooth, perky silhouette?

A:
I perform fat grafting for the Brazilian Butt Lift on three dimensions: below the muscle, in the muscle, and above the muscle. By getting right up next to the skin, I can actually create a smoother, perkier silhouette. This improves appearance of cellulite because the fat added fills in the “dimples” of cellulite. The fat graft is your own fat, taken via liposuction. So the Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that also creates a leaner, more youthful look in other areas of your body through liposuction, complementing the additional volume you get in your derriere.
