Brow Lift (Forehead Lift) in Charleston, SC

As we age, our forehead can lose its smoothness and become furrowed. It can also sag, causing our brows to lower over our eyes. This can make us look angry, stern, or tired, even when we are happy and well-rested. It can also make us look older than we desire. If people around you are asking, “Are you okay?” or “Rough night?” you might be able to benefit from a brow lift. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian G. Widenhouse offers brow lifts for men and women who live in Charleston, Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant, Summerville and the surrounding communities in South Carolina.

What Is A Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a surgical procedure that can help restore a more youthful appearance.

There are several alternatives to a forehead lift. Sometimes, it is not your brow that is responsible for your tired appearance, but your eyelids. If this is the case, eyelid surgery is a better choice for you. If you are looking for a less expensive, temporary solution, BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® injections can often give similar results to a forehead lift, although they require repeated treatments at about three to four-month intervals. Sometimes the best results are achieved by combining a forehead lift, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, and eyelid surgery.

How Much Does A Brow Lift Cost in Charleston?

The cost for a brow lift is dependent on various factors, such as the type of lift performed. Patients are informed of the cost during their consultation with Dr. Widenhouse and the Port City Plastic Surgery staff. For your convenience, we accept cash, check, and credit card payments. Financing options are also available to ease the affordability of the procedure.

What To Expect After A Brow Lift?

After surgery, your forehead and head may be taped to reduce swelling and facilitate healing. There will be swelling in the treated area, but discomfort should be minor and easily controlled with medication. Once the swelling goes down, you will see a smoother, more youthful-appearing forehead.
Sutures will be removed within a week following your brow lift. Swelling should completely subside within six weeks.

Will I Have Scars After Getting A Brow Lift?

The location of scarring will depend on the technique used to complete your brow lift. Typically, incisions are located behind the hairline, so they are optimally camouflaged.

When Will I See The Results?

Once the swelling subsides, you’ll be able to see the results created by your brow lift procedure. Swelling may not completely go away until about six weeks after the procedure.

What Are Possible Complications Of A Brow Lift?

Possible complications which could arise from a brow lift include:

  • Recurrence of brow ptosis
  • Irregularities in the contour of the forehead
  • Scarring
  • Numbness
  • Temporary paralysis of facial muscles
  • Alopecia

How Long Will The Results Of A Brow Lift Last?

The results of a brow lift can last 10 years or more with proper care. Maintaining a healthy facial skincare regimen can benefit the brow, increasing the longevity of brow lift results.

Benefits of A Brow Lift

Your brow is one of the most prominent features of your face. Its appearance can drastically affect the way you look, as well as the way you feel about your image. Undergoing a brow lift to correct troublesome brow features provides exciting benefits such as:

  • Taut skin and a reduction of brow wrinkling
  • Correction of a sagging brow
  • A more youthful, happy appearance
  • Positive self-image

Who Is The Ideal Candidate For A Brow Lift?

If you look in the mirror and your expression looks stern, angry, or aged when you are relaxed a forehead lift might be a good procedure for you. You should be in good general health, a non-smoker, and have specific, realistic goals for the surgery.

What Do I Need To Do Before A Brow Lift?

Prior to your brow lift, you’ll meet with Dr. Widenhouse for a consultation. He will examine the features of your brow, listen to your concerns and goals, and determine if a brow lift is a positive step toward delivering the results you desire. He’ll evaluate your medical history to ensure past or present conditions will not affect surgery or recovery. He’ll devise a plan for treatment that will improve the features you’re displeased with, leaving you with the look that gives off a sense of youth and confidence.

There are some instructions you must follow to prepare for your brow lift. You must stop smoking or using nicotine replacement products four weeks prior to surgery. There may be some medications or supplements Dr. Widenhouse will require you to quit taking, as they could affect the surgical process or outcomes.

What Should I Expect On The Day Of My Brow Lift?

During a brow lift, one or more incisions are made at or above the hairline. Let Dr. Widenhouse know whether your hairline is receding or is expected to recede so he can place incisions appropriately. The placement, length and number of incisions depend on the creases or sagging you are experiencing. Through these incisions, the skin of the forehead is pulled up more tightly over the front of the skull, and some excess skin is removed. If necessary, long-lasting sutures, small surgical screws, or other devices may be used to help maintain results. Incisions are closed with sutures or skin adhesives.
For some people, an endoscopic forehead lift may be an option. It uses shorter incisions and allows for faster recovery and less postoperative discomfort.

How Long Does It Take To Perform A Brow Lift?

To complete the brow lift, you’ll be in surgery for approximately one to two hours.

What is the difference between a brow lift and blepharoplasty?

Incisions for a brow lift are in the hairline and the procedure entails lifting and tightening excess forehead skin. An upper lid blepharoplasty has incisions in the eyelids and excess skin is removed from the eyelids. Both result in the eyes appearing larger and more youthful.

Does brow lift change eye shape?

A brow lift will not change the shape of the eyes, but it may help the eyes to look rounder or more open. Lifting the brow also helps to lift the upper eyelids thus making the eyes appear larger and more youthful.

Does insurance pay for brow lift?

Typically, health insurance does not pay for a brow lift. However, depending on your coverage, insurance may cover a brow lift in very limited circumstances.
