IPL Photofacial In Charleston, SC
Are you looking for a way to enhance skin tone and texture without using intense laser treatments? The IPL photofacial may be the perfect compromise. At Port City Plastic Surgery, we are proud to offer the IPL photofacial treatment to men and women living in Charleston, Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant, Summerville and the nearby cities of South Carolina.
What is an IPL Photofacial?
An IPL photofacial is an advanced light therapy treatment that is used to address sun damage, brown spots, acne, rosacea and blood vessels. IPL technology uses a spectrum of light, which is absorbed by various cells in the body. Following treatment, these cells become less visible, producing clearer, healthier skin. The IPL photofacial treatment also stimulates collagen production to reduce pore size and tighten the skin.
How Much Does an IPL Photofacial Cost in Charleston?
The cost of your IPL photofacial can vary depending on your unique needs, and the details will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation. This type of procedure is considered cosmetic and not usually covered by insurance, so we offer financing to assist our patients in covering the cost. We also accept payments by cash, check, and major credit cards.
Benefits of an IPL Photofacial
There are numerous benefits to an IPL photofacial, such as the effective management of skin conditions like acne and rosacea. Plus, patients are able to enjoy the long-term benefits that come with an increase in collagen production in the skin.
Other benefits include:
- Non-invasive, non-abrasive treatment
- Little to no downtime
- Improved skin tone and texture
- Reduction in age spots and sun damage
- Increases skin firmness and elasticity

Read Our ReviewsWho is the Ideal Candidate for an IPL Photofacial?
If you’re a healthy adult who wants to improve the tone, texture, and appearance of your skin, you’re likely a great candidate for an IPL photofacial treatment. However, this treatment may only be ideal for patients with lighter skin types.
What Should I Do Before My IPL Photofacial?
Depending on your unique circumstances, you may be given specific instructions to follow prior to your IPL photofacial treatment. In most cases, it’s recommended to stop using Retin-A in any form as well as any alpha-hydroxy acids at least three days before the treatment. You should also discontinue any self-tanners and minimize sun exposure prior to treatment.
How Long Does It Take to Perform an IPL Photofacial?
The IPL photofacial can be performed on the face in just 20 minutes. Larger areas of the body can be treated as well but may take up to 30 minutes.
What Should I Expect After an IPL Photofacial?
Immediately after the IPL photofacial treatment, you can expect mild redness and skin sensitivity. In some cases, you may also notice that freckles and brown spots darken over the days following treatment. These effects typically fade within a few days, and should not prevent you from returning to work and other activities.
At Port City Plastic Surgery, we recommend receiving a HydraFacial MD® treatment about two or three weeks after your IPL photofacial. This helps hydrate the skin, remove dead skin cells and enhance your results from treatment.

The IPL photofacial treatment is non-invasive, so there is no scarring whatsoever.
When Will I See Results From My IPL Photofacial?
You will begin to notice results from your IPL photofacial treatment as the skin heals. Most patients notice results within a week or two of treatment. However, it can take a few months for the full results of treatment to become visible. In most cases, a series of IPL photofacial treatment sessions are necessary for optimal results.
How Long Will the Results of an IPL Photofacial Last?
There are many variables that determine how long treatment results will last for each individual, so it tends to vary from person to person. Generally speaking, results can last for several months if you take good care of the skin. However, we typically recommend having maintenance treatments once or twice a year to ensure your results last as long as possible.
