Lip Augmentation in Charleston, SC
What Is Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation adds fullness and definition to the lips. It can be completed only to the upper or lower lip, or both lips simultaneously.
Lip augmentation can be performed using a few different techniques to improve volume and shape:
- A filler is injected into targeted areas of the lips
- Fat may be transferred to the lips from other areas of the body
- Silicone implants may be placed beneath the skin of the lips
How Much Does Lip Augmentation Cost in Charleston?
The cost of lip augmentation depends on a variety of factors, such as technique and dermal filler used. Payments are accepted by credit cards, cash, or check. We do offer financing options for the convenience of our patients.
What To Expect After Lip Augmentation?
Lip injections, whether fat or dermal fillers are used, require virtually no downtime. With lip injections, you may want to recuperate for a day before returning to work. With any type of lip augmentation swelling may occur.
Will I Have Scars After Getting Lip Augmentation?
Only lip implants will leave you with scars, as incisions are made to place the implant within the lip. The scars are carefully positioned at the corners of the mouth, so they are well concealed.
When Will I See The Results?
The results of lip augmentation are immediately noticeable after any form of augmentation. Full results will be visualized in about a week after surgery, as swelling disappears.
What Are Possible Complications Of Lip Augmentation?

How Long Will The Results Of Lip Augmentation Last?
The longevity of results will depend on the type of lip augmentation you undergo. The results of dermal filler lip augmentation dissipate within six months to two years following the procedure, depending on the filler used. Fat injection and silicone lip implants produce long-lasting results.
Benefits of Lip Augmentation
- Lip augmentation provides instant results
- The procedure takes only minutes, requiring no recovery period
- Fine lines surrounding the mouth are reduced
- The procedure is non-surgical and non-invasive
Who Is The Ideal Candidate For Lip Augmentation?
Those with naturally thin lips which are not very noticeable when smiling may wish to undergo lip augmentation. If your lips have lost fullness with age, or if you feel self-conscious about your smile, the procedure can restore confidence with its attractive results.
What Do I Need To Do Before Lip Augmentation?
During your consultation with Dr. Widenhouse, he will determine if you could benefit from lip augmentation. He will explain the various procedures which can be used and select the one which will help you most closely achieve your desired look.
What Should I Expect On The Day Of My Lip Augmentation?
The lip augmentation procedure depends on the technique which will be used to achieve fuller, more luscious lips.
For lip injections, dermal fillers are selected and strategically injected at points surrounding the lips to create volume. Fat may be removed from one area of the body, grafted, and injected into the lips to add shape and volume.
If silicone lip implants are used, small incisions are made in the corners of the mouth. A tunnel is created between the skin of the lips and tissue below, forming a pocket to hold the implant. The implant will be positioned and trimmed to the proper size. Incisions are then closed. This treatment is performed under local IV sedation.
How Long Does It Take To Perform Lip Augmentation?
Lip augmentation time varies. Lip injections can be performed in minutes with dermal fillers. Fat transfer does take longer to perform. Placing lip implants takes approximately one hour.
Lip Augmentation FAQs
How long does lip augmentation last?
How long your lip augmentation will last depends on the type of lip augmentation you receive. Patients who receive a lip implant can expect their results to last a lifetime, whereas patients who receive lip filler and lip injections may require maintenance once a year to maintain their results.
Can you feel lip implants?
No, you will not be able to feel a lip implant after it is placed. The lip implant is a soft, silicone implant that has the shape and texture of a natural lip. This implant gives our patients the natural-looking voluminous pout they desire long-term.
Is lip augmentation painful?
No, lip augmentation is not painful. Prior to your lip augmentation, a topical or local anesthetic will be applied to your treatment area. Following your treatment, you may experience mild swelling and tenderness around the mouth and lips. This typically resolves within a few days of treatment.
Do lips go back to normal after fillers?
Yes, your lips will return to their normal size and shape following lip fillers. The lip fillers used at Port City Plastic Surgery tend to wear away over a period of one to two years. During this time, the lips will begin to naturally take their smaller shape and size again without any major disruption.
What is a lip flip?
A lip flip is a cosmetic treatment in which Botox® is used to stabilize the upper lip while a patient smiles. Rather than adding volume to the lips to increase their overall size, the lip flip stops the upper lip from curling under while a patient smiles to maintain a fuller, more natural look to the lips.
