Laser Hair Removal in Charleston, SC

It is common for people to have unwanted hair, especially on the face, back, underarms, bikini area, and legs. At Port City Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian G. Widenhouse uses laser hair removal to eradicate unwanted hair for people living in Charleston, Daniel Island, Summerville and Mount Pleasant, SC, as well as the surrounding communities helping them feel less self-conscious about their appearance and have smoother skin.

What Is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive treatment used to remove unwanted hair on areas of the body. People with excessive amounts of unwanted hair are often self-conscious about exposing those areas. With laser hair removal, you can do away with the short-term fixes that have to be repeated on a regular basis and end up with smooth skin and little to no evidence of unwanted hair.

At Port City Plastic Surgery’s MedSpa, we use the LightSheer™ laser system for laser hair removal. This system is FDA approved for long lasting hair reduction and uses diode laser technology that results in significantly reduced unwanted hair.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost in Charleston?

The cost of laser hair removal using LightSheer™ is different with each patient based on the area being treated and how many treatments are necessary to achieve the desired look. During a consultation, we go over costs for laser hair removal and our payment options including financing.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

LightSheer™ laser hair removal is the only FDA-approved hair removal system for hair reduction and offers the following benefits:

  • Treatment duration is relatively short
  • Very little to no discomfort
  • Long lasting results
  • Targets and treats large areas of hair follicles at one time

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Anyone with excessive unwanted hair wanting to greatly reduce or eliminate it is an ideal candidate for LightSheer™ laser hair removal. This technologically advanced system uses the melanin in your hair to attract the light energy. Darker hair attracts laser energy better than very light gray or white hair. During a complimentary consultation, we can evaluate your skin type and hair to determine whether the unwanted hair contains enough melanin to benefit from LightSheer™ laser hair removal.

What Do I Need to Do Before Laser Hair Removal?

There is no preparation needed for LightSheer™ laser hair removal. It is even recommended that people avoid shaving as the light energy targets the anatomical structures below the skin instead of the hair itself; however, plucking and electrolysis should be avoided. These temporary treatments interfere with the hair removal process. It is necessary that medications such as Accutane and Retin-A be avoided prior to laser hair removal treatments.

What Should I Expect During Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal treatments using LightSheer™ energy target pigment in the hair follicle and shaft. The pigment attracts and absorbs the light energy in the hair follicle converting it to heat so that it can damage the hair follicle. This causes a delay in re-growth of hair and often long lasting destruction of many of the hair follicles.

LightSheer™ laser technology uses two laser hair removal technologies including a high-speed vacuum for large treatment areas and ChillTip™ Sapphire integrated cooling designed for more delicate treatment areas. Using a diode laser hand-piece, the treatment is safe for all skin types.

How Long Does It Take to Perform Laser Hair Removal?

The duration of laser hair removal with LightSheer™ technology varies depending on the area of the body. The upper lip may take as little as one minute while larger areas such as the back may take up to 30 minutes. During a complimentary consultation, we provide patients with an average amount of time the treatment takes so they can plan their activities around laser hair removal.

What to Expect After Laser Hair Removal

For the most part, people may return to their normal daily routine immediately following their treatments. There may be some slight redness like a sunburn that resolves itself over the first few days following the treatments. The hair that falls out is eliminated. Because hair grows in different cycles, it takes several treatments to get the desired look of significantly less unwanted hair or even its removal. Laser hair removal treatments are scheduled several weeks apart depending on the area of the body and the amount of hair.

When Will I See the Results?

There are immediate results with laser hair removal; however, it takes a couple of weeks for the remainder of the hair to fall out of the area where the treatment is performed. Following each treatment, less hair remains in the area.

How Long Will the Results of Laser Hair Removal Last?

The results of laser hair removal with LightSheer™ technology are long lasting.
