Before and After Breast Augmentation
Patients seeking to enhance the size and shape of the breasts can achieve fantastic results through breast augmentation – but not without going through the recovery process. Following your breast augmentation surgery, you can expect some pain, discomfort and changes in the look and feel of the breasts as the body recovers from treatment. Here’s what you need to know about breast augmentation recovery.
Do your boobs get bigger after augmentation?
One of the primary goals of breast augmentation is to enhance the size of the breasts, so you can expect the boobs to get bigger after augmentation. However, it may not happen exactly how you’d expect. The breast augmentation surgery places breast implants into the breasts, creating an immediate increase in breast size. Following surgery, the breasts may increase larger due to swelling. Ultimately, this means that the size of the breasts may get slightly smaller as swelling heals – but they will still be larger than they were prior to surgery.
How long does it take for breast augmentation to look normal?
About 6 weeks after the breast augmentation procedure, patients will notice that their breasts are beginning to look and feel more normal. It may take up to 3 months after surgery for the breasts to look completely normal, so don’t be alarmed if it doesn’t happen immediately after treatment.
How long do breasts stay hard after augmentation?
Due to the formation of scar tissue in the breasts, you may notice that the breasts feel unusually hard after breast augmentation. Over time, throughout the recovery process, the muscles will start to relax and the breast tissue will soften. This process can take anywhere between 3 and 6 months, after which time your breasts should look and feel much more natural.
Is it better to wear a bra or not after breast augmentation?
Regardless of the type of breast implant you choose, it is absolutely essential to wear a bra after breast augmentation. Bras, particularly surgical bras or sport bras, will provide the support needed to facilitate a smooth recovery. They can help reduce swelling and unnecessary movement, both of which can reduce pain and discomfort throughout your recovery. Once you have fully recovered from your breast augmentation, you can make the choice whether to wear a bra or not. However, supportive bras can help prevent the effects of gravity on the breasts to prolong their perkiness.
