Breast Augmentation Recovery: What to Expect

Breast augmentation is a popular cosmetic procedure that can boost your confidence and self-esteem. If you have decided to undergo breast augmentation, it is important to prepare for the recovery period so you can heal properly and achieve the best possible results. Below, we will discuss what to expect during breast augmentation recovery.

Immediately After Surgery

After your breast augmentation surgery, you will likely feel groggy and disoriented from the anesthesia. You will be monitored by medical staff until you are stable enough to go home. You should arrange for a family member or friend to drive you home and stay with you for the first few days of recovery.

The First Few Days

During the first few days after surgery, it is normal to experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You will be given pain medication to help manage your pain. You should avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects during this time. You will also need to wear a compression garment to help reduce swelling and provide support for your breasts.

The First Week

During the first week of breast augmentation recovery, you should continue to take it easy and avoid any strenuous activities. You may be able to return to work, but you should avoid any activities that involve lifting or pushing heavy objects. Dr. Widenhouse will schedule a follow-up appointment around this time to check your progress and remove any sutures.

Two Weeks After Surgery

After two weeks, you should start to feel more comfortable and the swelling should start to subside. You can gradually begin to resume light activities, such as walking or light exercise. You should still avoid any strenuous activities, such as running or weightlifting.

One Month After Surgery and Beyond

After one month, you should be able to resume most of your normal activities, including exercise. However, you may need to continue to avoid any activities that involve pushing or pulling heavy objects. Your breasts will continue to settle into their final position over the next few months, with most patients noticing their final results approximately 6 months after surgery.

How Long Will Breast Augmentation Results Last?

The MENTOR® breast implants we use at Port City Plastic Surgery have an approximate lifespan of 20 to 25 years. This timeframe may be affected by a number of factors, such as experiencing complications or the desire to alter the appearance of the breasts. In general, breast augmentation results are considered to be long-lasting, but not necessarily permanent. Most women can expect to enjoy the benefits of their breast augmentation for many years. However, it is important to note that breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime, and they may need to be replaced at some point in the future.

If you have any questions or concerns during your breast augmentation recovery, don’t hesitate to contact us at Port City Plastic Surgery. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have and provide you with the support you need during your recovery period.
