Charleston Residents Ask: Can Plastic Surgery Make My Eyes Bigger?

We are told to make eye contact while making conversation. We are told that to do so exudes power, confidence, and warmth. It can be hard to exude any of those things if you are not feeling confident in the way your eyes appear to those around you. If you ache any time you hear the expression “doe-eyed,” or otherwise feel self-conscious about the size of your eyes, there are options for you in the Charleston area.
What is eyelid surgery/blepharoplasty procedure?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid reshaping surgery, is a surgical procedure that can be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids. If you have sagging upper eyelids or excess skin in your upper eyelids, or bags under the eyes, this could make your eyes appear smaller. Eyelid surgery can help to remove excess eyelid skin, leaving your eyes looking brighter, more energetic, and more youthful. Depending on your needs, these surgeries can be done alone or in conjunction with each other.
Keep in mind, if the issue you are having with your upper and lower eyelids is such that it is impeding your vision, it is possible to have this lower or upper eyelid surgery covered by insurance.
What to expect during blepharoplasty recovery?
After the surgery, your eyes will be swollen and tender, and you will need to wear a temporary bandage. Stitches will be removed after a week’s time, and bruising should resolve completely in two to four weeks. Most people feel comfortable returning to work in a little over a week.
Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to enjoy your new, bigger eyes. If you experience any pain and discomfort during the healing process, pain medication should do the trick. The appearance of scars should be minimal, as incisions are made deliberately so that the natural folds of the eye camouflage any scarring. Results of eyelid surgery should last for many years.
