Charleston Women Ask: Can a Breast Lift be Done Without Implants?

One of the most common questions we receive in regard to breast enhancement procedures is, “Can I get a breast lift without getting any breast implants?” The answer is a resounding, “Yes!” A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a procedure meant to address sagging breasts and restore perkiness, elasticity, and fullness to one’s breasts without the need for implants during breast surgery. A breast lift without implants is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is actually very common.

How it Works

On its own, a breast lift surgery is meant to use your existing tissue to re-sculpt and boost breasts that have fallen victim to gravity or are experiencing signs of aging. During a breast lift procedure, Dr. Widenhouse will remove excess skin, reshape existing breast tissue, and potentially reposition the nipple-areolar complex for perkier, fuller breasts and an enhanced breast contour.

Of course, if you would like to increase your volume or breast size in addition to having your breasts lifted, it is possible to perform an augmentation at the same time as the breast lift procedure.

Procedure Length and Recovery Time

For most patients, a breast lift can take about three hours to complete, depending on their unique treatment plan. Dr. Widenhouse will discuss with you what care is needed before and after the procedure. Swelling is normal and is to be expected. Bandages will remain for three days after the surgery. Most patients are cleared to return to their normal, non-strenuous activities after a week.

With a breast lift, there will be some scarring around and right below the nipple, though scars should be faint with proper post-op care. The placement of these scars means that they will not be visible in a bathing suit or in a low-cut top.
