How Will Exercise Affect My Brazilian Butt Lift?

Brazilian Butt Lift in Charleston, SCA Brazilian Butt Lift performed by Dr. Widenhouse at Port City Plastic Surgery in Charleston, SC is a safe and effective procedure for women who desire a more curvaceous derriere. However, there is a common misconception that diet and / or exercise will diminish the effects of a Brazilian Butt Lift, or that it is a temporary procedure. This is simply not true.

The fat that is moved from one part of your body to your buttocks is a graft, just like a skin graft. Much as a skin graft doesn’t just dissolve away, neither will grafted fat. In a typical patient, we expect about 60% of the injected fat to stay in the area and about 40% to be reabsorbed by the body. The fat that “takes” and is successful in its new “home” has a blood supply. Once that blood supply is established, the fat is going to stay there for the long term.

That said, as other parts of the body shrink due to diet or exercise, so will the fat in your Brazilian Butt Lift. Think of the fat cells like tiny balloons. Once implanted and established, they are there to stay. If you lose weight, the tiny balloons (fat cells) will shrink. If you gain weight, the tiny balloons (fat cells) will grow — but the overall number of established balloons (fat cells) remains the same.

We absolutely encourage people to exercise after their surgery recovery period is over, but would not recommend doing any strenuous workouts of the butt for at least the first 3 months to allow the fat cells to be securely healed and established. After that, start off slowly and build up to your max routine. Once there, building up your muscle could increase your buttocks size.

In the case of the Brazilian Butt Lift, exercises like squats, lunges, P90X-type exercises and calisthenics can actually build the butt muscle up and give you even better results. Upper body, leg, and core exercises will help keep you keep your new curves.

Overall fat loss from a lot of cardio or weight loss from dieting will reduce the grafted buttocks proportionally to the rest of the body. Working out and weight loss after a Brazilian Butt Lift will not cause the grafted fat to shrink any faster than the fat on other parts of the body, but the balloons (fat cells) could shrink.
