Eyes can say so much about a person. Are they happy? Are they sad? Are they intelligent? Are they energetic? Our eyes can even give off the impression that we are tired or fatigued, even when we are not feeling that way. Luckily, there is a solution for anyone in the Mount Pleasant area who feels as though the bags under their eyes are causing them to look constantly exhausted.
What is eyelid surgery?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid reshaping surgery, can be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids. Bags under your lower eyelids can give your entire face an older, more tired appearance. Eyelid surgery can help to remove some of the excess skin, leaving your eyes looking brighter, more energetic, and more youthful.
If you elect to pursue lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Widenhouse will want to schedule a consultation to assess your needs and expectations. Many people come in complaining of eye bags, but there are often also wrinkles in the lower eyelid area that can be dealt with as well. Most lower eyelid surgeries result in zero to minimal scarring, as the incision is made on the inside of the eyelid in order to remove any fat pockets from below your eyes.
When will I see results?
After the surgery, bruising and swelling can be expected, and you will need to wear a temporary bandage. Cold packs should assist in alleviating any swelling and discomfort. Stitches will be removed after a week’s time and bruising should resolve completely in two to four weeks. Most people feel comfortable returning to work in a little over a week.
Once the swelling abates, results should be immediately apparent. The results of eyelid surgery are inherently permanent, but since the aging process does not stop, some patients may choose to get their eyes touched up after a decade or so.
