Choosing The Right Doctor For Your Surgery
When discussing something as serious as an invasive surgical procedure to your body, there is no such thing as cutting corners. One of the first things you want to do is to check to see if your doctor is Board Certified. But what does that even mean? Well there are multiple (24 total) medical specialty boards in the U.S. and these boards certify physicians in various specialties. For example, a doctor who specialized in dermatology should not be certified in brain surgery and vice versa. In addition, all specialty boards require passage of a written exam, completed without assistance, usually administered interactively by computer in a secure testing facility. Some specialties also require an oral exam. The exams are intended to assess medical knowledge and clinical judgment.
Check the Patient Reviews
When finding a doctor, a thing you should actively seek out are the patient reviews. This may be the easiest way to figure out if a doctor knows what he or she is doing and if they provide a reasonable service.
Review the Before and After
Most legitimate doctors should have multiple pages on their website dedicated to ‘before and after’ surgery pictures. What these pictures do is visually show what can and will be done to your body to enhance your every-day life. But be careful because some before and after pictures can be faked. Be watchful of the possibility that they took pictures of similar looking people, Photoshop, and obvious digital touchups.
